Compiling Metis 5.0 on Windows

Hi all,

I'm most of the way through getting Metis 5.0 pre2 compiled on Windows 32 and 64 as part of porting the Pastix solver. There's a few uses of regfree etc in GKLib that aren't native to the Windows platform. I thought I should ask if anyone has done the work to build 5.0 on Windows already before I start grinding through these last parts. So, has anyone got 5.0 running on Windows yet?

Damien

RE: How can a completely NEW user

How can a completely NEW user of the parallel Telemac get the old Metis library when it is no more available from the Metis site? Shouldn't it be now distributed with Telemac?-Joe Aldeguer

RE: Hello, thank you for your

Hello,

thank you for your message, yes, this simple modification in the old Metis library allows using a compiler strictly following the C99 standards.

However, the problem remains: How can a completely NEW user of the parallel Telemac get the old Metis library when it is no more available from the Metis site? Shouldn't it be now distributed with Telemac?

Of course the best solution is to adapt Partel as the Metis library changes.

RE: The 5.x version of Metis

The 5.x version of Metis should build on windows without any issues as long as you follow the instructions regarding cmake.

RE: re

I get some epic fill-in growth with Metis and Scotch on some matrices, growing by a factor of 50 or more. I strongly suspect that it's something that I'm telling Pastix because it doesn't happen on the same problems in MUMPS or SuperLU.

RE: Any more news on the Windows port of 5.0?

Hi,

I thought I'd check back in. I have Pastix ported and working on Windows, and it happily uses Metis 4 or Scotch 5. Is there any more progress on the Windows build of Metis 5? As a side note, I get some epic fill-in growth with Metis and Scotch on some matrices, growing by a factor of 50 or more. I strongly suspect that it's something that I'm telling Pastix because it doesn't happen on the same problems in MUMPS or SuperLU.

RE: Dear Damien, Could you

Dear Damien,

Could you please tell me how to build the SCOTCH 5 on Windows?

Thanks,
Zhanghong Tang

RE: That would be awesome.

That would be awesome.

RE: I just spent an hour this

I just spent an hour this morning and I'm one function away from getting a clean visual studio build (vsscanf()). Once I find a good implementation of that, then I will post my code.

RE: But you are using the intel

But you are using the intel compiler? The cl-compiler of VS is not and as far as I understand will never be C99 compatible :(

RE: RE: But you are using the intel

The no C99 in VS is a pain, but you can get around that, it's just more work. I had similar issues getting Scotch 5.0.2 built under VS, it took a little while and you need to add a few custom headers for stdint.h etc. It is a lot easier with the Intel compiler.

RE: I run into same problems

I run into same problems some time ago and opened a thread:

(sorry for false thread declaration... it's metis 5.0 and not 3.0 of course...)
